This award is given annually to organizations that promote the concept and spirit of community inclusion for people with developmental disabilities. The award was presented at a virtual ceremony on May 22.
“Inclusion is a concept that is fundamental to NorQuest – it’s practically in our DNA,” says Sandra Moore, Dean, Faculty of Business, Environment, and Technology at NorQuest College. “It’s extremely satisfying for our program to be recognized by Inclusion Alberta, but the real reward is experiencing the positive impact of inclusive education on the lives of our students with developmental disabilities.”
NorQuest’s Business Administration Program helps students develop a core understanding of business fundamentals with specializations offered in Management, Accounting, Human Resources Management, Finance, or General Studies. Graduates of the program are in-demand by industry thanks to the practical and intensive training they receive.
When inclusion permeates an institution
Students with developmental disabilities attend post-secondary with the same goals and seek the same opportunities as any students, but are not always integrated into the post-secondary community and its programs in the same way.
“The students I support may have had past educational experiences that were negative and often segregated,” says Kelsey Zaruk, Coordinator of Inclusive Post-Secondary at NorQuest College. “Being welcomed into a program based upon their career-related interests has allowed them to thrive and grow.”
