In partnership with Red River College, this project identified the most common career goal changes new immigrants make during the initial settlement period in Canada, as well as the underlying psychological and social factors impact those choices. Key findings included shifting careers based on the transferability of employability (i.e., soft) skills between professions and 8 unique career change trajectories, each of which require different supports. The results of this project are currently being developed into a board game to enable Service Providing Organizations and non-immigrants insights into new immigrants’ settlement experiences.
