Eproctor testing services

Eproctoring is a way of providing online exam supervision. Online exam supervision allows NorQuest applicants, students, and community members to write their exams in their own home or place of their choosing, rather than commuting to our on-campus testing centre.

Both live, online proctors and technology systems are used to monitor exam writers during their exam session. Eproctoring allows students to take their exams at a date and time of their choosing – at any time of the day or night, seven days per week.

NorQuest has partnered with two service providers to meet the testing needs of applicant, student, and external clients.

What should you know about eproctoring?

Not all exams at NorQuest are eproctored. However, if your exam uses eproctoring services, there are some important things you need to know. The Testing and Assessment Centre will provide more detailed information to you before to writing your exam.

  • To confirm your identity as the test-taker, biometrics are used, such as having your picture taken and/or doing keystroke recognition. Have a government issued photo ID ready. (If you are a NorQuest student, we encourage you to use your NorQuest student ID card.)

  • You need a private, quiet space to write your exam. You will show that your space is private by panning your camera around the room.

  • You will be monitored for the duration of your exam – both you and your computer screen can be seen by your proctor.

  • Your exam writing session will be recorded for the sole purpose of exam adjudication.

  • In some cases, an online proctor will ask you if they can take control of your computer. This will allow them to help you set up your computer for your exam and/or provide technical support, as needed.

  • Examity and ProctorU meet NorQuest’s standards and requirements for data security and privacy.

What are the technical requirements to use eproctoring?

To use eproctoring you will need access to a laptop or a computer. We do not recommend using a computer in a public library, workplace, or other public place. These types of computers may have security settings that will prevent you from using eproctoring services.
