Instructors are challenged not only to build the subject-area content knowledge of English language learners, but also to promote language proficiency skills according to the requirements of the Alberta K-12 ESL benchmarks system. This elective course examines topics that include settlement and immigration patterns, categories, and resources; strategies for supporting learner success; selecting suitable teaching methodology; generating or selecting materials that align with the K-12 benchmarks; literacy and numeracy progression; and selecting appropriate assessment strategies to address the language learning needs of K-12 EAL learners.Note: Prerequisite TEAL 1000
