Seniors Mental Health in Post-Acute Continuing Care - XHLT 1570

Canadians are living longer than they have in the past, and statistics show that the prevalence of mental illness rises with age. Systems of care are now having to meet the unique needs of seniors with overlapping chronic physical and mental illnesses. This workshop will help caregivers recognize their role in creating a therapeutic environment for seniors by exploring the reasons for challenging behaviours and demonstrating strategies for dealing with the types of mental illnesses most commonly found in seniors care settings. Participants will be able to successfully apply theory and skills for providing patient-focused quality care in multidisciplinary seniors care centres.
